Wallingford Town U17's 6-4 Carterton FC U17s
By Philip Godfrey
Spirited Performance by 10 Man Carterton
A game full of excitement, surprises and poor decisions by the Match Official, Carterton looked dangerous going forward every time and were in complete control leading 3-1 until a unusually nasty incident flared up between the Carterton forwards and Wallingford defenders. The incident involved two of the Carterton Strikers and the Wallingford Defenders. Remarkably the Wallingford Club referee gave a yellow card to George Wright
and a straight Red card to Marcus Owsnett
to the disbelief of the players, supporters and coaches? No one from the Wallingford team was cautioned or talked to.
This changed the game instantly bringing Wallingford back into a game that showed no malice or bad play previously. Despite long periods of defending in their own half Carterton still went into half time 3-2 in the lead. However, with only one substitute, Carterton tired with Wallingford throwing players forward and rolling 5 substitutes on and off, Eventually Wallingford were able to draw level and go on to win the game with Carterton down to 9 men at one time due to injuries and tired legs.
